The endothermic dehydration of Hydrofy presents many advantages:

 

• Reduction of heat released by polymers during their combustion

• Dilution of oxygen with water vapour, with consequent flame reduction

• Formation of a hard char, which protects the polymers from fire

• Reduction of smoke density and acidity

 

Thanks to its high thermal stability, Hydrofy can be used in a very wide range of applications.

Finer grades (Hydrofy HD 1.5, G 1.5 and G 2.5) are recommended for insulation and sheathing of HFFR and PVC cables, as well as in many other elastomeric and thermoplastic compounds.

 

Coarser grades (Hydrofy G 5 and G 7) find specific application in highly filled products, like ACP (Aluminium Composite Panels) or bedding compounds for HFFR cables, where an outstanding flame performance is required while keeping a very good processability.

Hydrofy is also available with different types of chemical surface treatments, especially designed for enhancing selected performances in specific applications. Through the suitable coating process the surface of Hydrofy is chemically modified to improve its compatibility with polymers and to optimize its effect on mechanical and flame performance of compounds and composites.
